Shades of Grey

The past few days have been dark and dreary, and I have really missed the sunshine, but this morning I was taken by the beauty in the fog and the trees. The trees have the look of an x-ray of the body showing all the arteries and veins.

Believe it or not, the sun is supposed to come out today and the temperature up in the 60s!

Roosters full of hope and love!

What do you think? I must say, I have loved working on this. My husband told me, "Oh, that is so you!" It will be hanging in my kitchen window, but due to our gloomy day, I had to take it outside to get some decent pictures.

I simply used my rooster pattern and added some "hope" and "love" to it.

I like this redheart yarn I found. It is called "Primary". The colors are awesome!

I think it's so Groovy!

I have managed to get another pair of fingerless gloves done. I am going to try and get another pair done this weekend.

I do have more to share, but it is so dark and gloomy today I can't get any decent pictures. Maybe tomorrow...we'll see.

Monkey, Booties and Roosters!

Meet Mel's Noro Birthday Monkey! I crocheted it up special just for her. I gave it to her today, she loved him!! He was pretty easy to make. Basically it is just crocheting up a tube and stuffing it. Then adding the nose, which is like crocheting the toe of a sock. Little round ears, and skinny arms and legs. I put pipe cleaners in the arms and gets so she could pose him.

Isn't he cute?

On facebook I am participating in a pay-it-forward project. The first five people to post a comment to mine would get a handmade "something" from me, then they must do the same thing. This is my first pay it forward project. A pair of baby booties and hat out or Ty-Dye. I used the Easy Baby Booties pattern I found on Ravelry. They work up so quick. I added the little rose to the hat.

I think they will be happy with it. With a new baby on the way, and all their excitement of their new little baby girl coming, I couldn't resist. So, one down, four pay it forwards to go!

I am in rooster production again! Check out this mack daddy rooster! I like him, he has a little extra bling.

My button box is full of all kinds of trinkets, as you can see. This guy has a key, and when you flip him over to the other side.....

Can you guess what that is?? It's a garter that was on an old girdle. It was in my mom's button box. I can't imagine wearing one. I remember her wearing them. LOL! Boy, times have changed!

My last trip to Hobby Lobby I picked up these H and G hooks. OMG!! I love using them. If you haven't tried them, I would encourage you to. I doubt I will go back to my old hooks with these in my took kit.

I also saw this free pattern, and couldn't resist. Isn't it pretty!! It's on my to do list. I may have to move it up towards the top of the list. LOL!

Well, that's about it for now. I am working on a belt for me...and want to get it finished up, and get some more roosters done for my etsy shop.

I've never been a hat kind of girl...

but Tuesday I literally was wishing I had a hood or hat to cover my head and ears. I work downtown, and it was 19 degrees, but I swear it felt more like zero!!

So, when I got home from work Tuesday evening, after settling in, I decided to crochet myself a hat!! No pattern, I just picked up a size K hook and I had two skeins of Red Heart Curly Q on hand...well

I think I can honestly say I am a hat kinda gal! I love it. It does the trick, keeps my ears and noggin nice and toasty warm! If only it didn't give me hat hair. LOL

A New Year...

I have to say I am ready! I like New Year's. It's like a new start, a clean slate so to speak. After a busy Christmas I'm happy to settle back into my routine. Decorations will come down this week, but not today. Today I'm chilling with Phoebe and old movies, and of course some yarn!

She's lounging in the sun while I was taking pictures of these cute little fingerless gloves. Look at those eyes!

Check em out!!! I like them so much I have started another pair. The pattern is a redheart freebie. I don't normally care for crocheted gloves because they can feel too bulky, but I like these. They actually look knit to me.

I used a sock yarn that I got in a yarn swap, so I don't know where it is from. The green in it is stunning.

Another thing I have been wanting to make myself is a pair of warm socks to wear around the house to keep my feet warm. I found crochet geeks tutorial on you tube and followed it, except for the cuff. I did a ribbed cuff on my and worked it in the round.

You could easily rename these "feet warmers"! They are so cozy and warm!

I did use a bulky yarn, if I had gone with something finer I could easily wear these with shoes. I'm so pleased with them! And they are crochet!!! How cool is that!

I'm off for now, going to work on my second pair of gloves. I hope everyone had a great New Years!

Post Christmas Slow Down

Well, finally, I finished up my shawl!!! Once I got past Christmas, I drug this out and finished it up.

Isn't it beautiful!! That Miss Babs yarn is da bomb!!!

Here is a littlel closeup. This pattern is super easy! I like the texture, and I love the little lace stitch in it!

Check it out wrapped around my neck!!! Doesn't it bring out my blue eyes!!! Those wanting the pattern, you can find it here. It's called La La's Simple Shawl by Laura Linneman. She has a lot of nice patterns available on Ravelry! The yarn is from Miss Babs, and is Yowsa What a Skein, in the color of Crimson Fronted Barbet.

The Last Little Angel of Christmas

Adorable or what??? I wanted a new angel for my Christmas tree this year, and of course, I wanted to crochet her. After surfing ravelry looking at patterns and projects I decided to do my own thang...and this is what I came up with. I knew I had to use this silver novelty yarn in her. It worked perfectly!

Look at that hair! I put it in one strand at a time, and didn't stop until I had it nice and thick. It was pretty simple, just took a little bit of time.

Yes, she has a nose and little ears! Easy to make. I simply double knotted my white yarn, and then with a needle pulled both ends through her head, the knots made perfectly shaped ears and noses!

The little gold collar contrasts perfectly with the silver trim.

One has little laced ballet slippers. Due to the lack of time, I didn't get to work on these as much as I would have liked to. I can see all kinds of variations for her. She does have wings, but are just hard to see from the front.

A last minute crocheted ornament I did. There is another in the making. I have been wanting to crochet and angel, but just couldn't find a pattern I liked, so I just went with what I had in my head! Isn't she cute??!! I promise better pictures to come up.

Here is a cute close up. I hope to get some better photographs tomorrow.

For now my eyes are getting very heavy and there is a Christmas movie on. Tah Tah!!!

Uh Oh...There's a Mouse in the House!

"There's a Mouse in the house!!" Isn't he cute though? I've been wanting to crochet this up for quite some time. It's fast and fun. It is a free Lion Brand pattern, you can find it here.

I did add a little snoot for him and some whiskers though. I want to crochet up another, hopefully, but time is running short!!!

I did make another snowman. He is just as cute as the pair I did earlier, too.

Boy do I love this pattern!

Look at the adorable ornament one of my knitting girls gave me!!

It's so clever! She made the knitting needles herself.

A friend and I took the afternoon off yesterday and went to Korner's Folly in Kernersville. It was all dressed for Christmas. So pretty! I just wanted to share a couple of pictures with you.

This was in the pink room. The tree was upside down. And there were elves everywhere.

I thought this tree was so pretty. It just glowed.

So pretty. It looks ice cold. This was in the bathroom.

I think this one is my favorite. The tinsel tree had on red ornaments and it just glowed. This was in the Grand Ball Room of the house.

The house has fifteen fireplaces in it.

Here is the large tree in the Ball Room. I believe this house is one of my favorite places to go at Christmas time.

Now how cute are these!!! I spent yesterday testing this pattern for my friend Ellen. They make me positively hooky happy! So much, that I have a third one started. You can find the pattern here in Ellen's etsy shop. Check out their mittens! I put them on a little string so they won't get lost!

Well, here ya go! They even say "Love"! I just about have the pattern the way I like it, so after Christmas I should have it ready. I like dressing them up in buttons and embroidery.

I did this one in a sport weight yarn and smaller hook. He is tiny.

Speaking of Rooster Love, I finished up this little stocking this week, too.

Oh the whimsy!!! I am having a little fetish with the black and red right now, LOL. I actually had to make another trip to Hobby Lobby yesterday for more red and black yarn.

His nose kinda reminds me of Fog Horn Leg Horn. :-) I have a few more of these to crank out before Christmas. Good thing they are fun to work on...or I would be crazy by now.

All you need are some scraps and some pipe cleaners. They work up in minutes!

Christmas Time Crochet

It's like a little workshop here...yarn everywhere, buttons, embroidery floss. And I keep miss placing my scissors! LOL!!!

More little stockings are in the works. I love the little snowman!! Isn't he cute!! Then I crocheted up the little stripe-ity to go with it.

I like his little face and scarf...it just flat out makes me smile!

Here is another color combination I am working on. This one is destined to have a little snowman on him.

I am calling him "Chicken Love"! I do think I need to tighten up my stitches and work on the body shape a little, I want him to be a little fatter. But the wings and head I am completely satisfied with!!! He is so folk-art-ish I can't stand it!

Check out what one of the girls at Knitting taught me! Yes, broomstick crochet. It's so easy and fun I can't stand it. I made myself this little cuff and can't seem to make myself take it off. I want to make one that is wider, oh if I only had more time on my hands!

I managed to find some time to make these up for an etsy order. Note the tail! I changed it up a bit. Oh how I like making these. My favorite is the black one.

Christmas Crocheting

It has been a nice Thanksgiving weekend here. After feasting on turkey and dressing, I spent time crocheting, Christmas crocheting! I found this pattern on ravelry and immediately grabbed a hook and some yarn and started. These are so much fun to make!!! It's a free pattern at Le monde de Sucrette. I have also become a fan of her blog...her crochet is off the chain!

Putting together all these bright colors and adding buttons and pom-poms has been a blast. They work up quickly, too! I am thinking about doing a little garland with these, if I can get enough done in time. Seems I can't find enough of it these days to get everything done.

It's not quite done, but I'm getting there. OMG...I am digging it, too!!! Roosters and pennies all in crochet. I still have a backing to do and something for the corners. But I wanted to share. The rooster is from my rooster pattern, I just crochet the tail instead of chain stitching loops. Makes him look very grand!

Oh my...I blinged out my little rooster with some buttons and embroidery. Doesn't he look grand??? Especially against the cocheted pennies I have been doing. I'm not sure what I am going to do with these pennies yet. I saw some penny rugs at the craft show this weekend and really was drawn to how "folk arty" they look. I work on these in the morning when I get up and drinking my tea...such a nice way to start the day!

Hootie pattern is just about ready for testing. It looks like Saturday, when I can get some good pictures to go with it.

Chillin'

Today I have been chillin' just doing things around the house, and yes, a little crochet time, too! My jammies have been on all day! It's fun to do that every once in awhile, and today has been the perfect day for it.

Check out the little Owlie and the ornament I did this morning. I think they kind of go together. A Christmas Tree loaded with these would be so cute!

This afternoon I attempted another...not sure how I feel about it yet.

I like the way the colors turned out, but it is a little too large. I am going to give it another attempt and change it up a little bit.

My craft booth was a real success on Saturday. I sold tons of Owlies and scarves. I was very pleased, and very tired when I got home. It's been a week battling a major sinus infection, followed by major antibiotics and a shot or cortisone. I am finally feeling back to normal...I think the medicine actually makes you feel a little worse at first!

So, tomorrow is back to Monday and the normal, not a bad thing I guess. Y'all make it a good week!

Holy Cow! I came across this gal on flickr...immediately I was hooked. Y'all know how much I love the roosters, and what she has done with him is awesome. I wish I could actually touch him!

Just look at these!!!!! I don't know how she gets those zippers in there. And I love, love, love the embroidery. She does not have a blog, but posts regularly on flickr, and has an etsy shop. OMG...look at that little owlie! She goes by "woollie fabulous, which is the perfect name for her!

Baby Owlies!

Baby Owlies!! Aren't they cute??? My hubs actually asked me, why don't you make some baby ones? I said, OK, and just look. They are so cute I can't stand it!

So my goal this week is to get as many of these done as I can. My craft show is next weekend and I think these will be a hit.

Here is a small group of them. They look at home in the leaves and the trees. I think I can honestly say that I have enjoyed making these as much as I have snowmen.

It's an instant smile!

I have the pattern roughed out for these, needs some serious tweaking and pictures before it's ready, but you can be looking for it in the next couple weeks.

This brisk fall air has got me in the best mood ever. I just love it. The house is all cozied up with fall decorations, afghans on the beds and sofas, candles...it just doesn't get better.

I'm off to put a couple baked potatoes on for supper and crochet up some more owlie babies...y'all have a good week!

So...what do you think? A little too funky?? I like him...he's got character!

I added little wings to these guys. Their funkiness makes me smile.

Simple and cute. The next step is to get a pattern written up for these. Right now I am trying to crochet up as many as possible for my craft show on the 10th.

I want to thank everyone who volunteered to test out the Hootie pattern!! It is very appreciated and I got some great feed back. I now have the pattern listed in my etsy shop.

Fall is in full swing here today. It seemed to take its time getting here, but the air is finally crisp and cool and the leaves are falling! I love it!

So, when in Asheville at SAFF, I was in this cool little shop where they were selling these little owls made from scraps of fabric and buttons. Got me to thinking...and you know...that can be a dangerous thing!

Scrap Happy Zig-Zag Blanket done!! I finished it while at SAFF this weekend (which was a blast - see below!) I can't tell you how much fun this was to work on. There were a good amount of ends to weave in, but it was so worth it!!!!

Phoebe totally approves!!

This weekend was SAFF, so our group of girlz piled up in the truck and headed to Asheville for a weekend of yarn, food, and fun!! I have never laughed so much in my life!!!!

First off, the fall color was amazing!! How perfect! This year about ten of us rented a cabin on Swannanoa Mountain.

Just look at the view!!!! The air was crisp and cold in the morning and evenings, while the days warmed up, we couldn't have asked for better weather.

You can shop til you want to drop...then find a seat and put your feet up and knit awhile!!

My girl Mel scarfed up these cute little sock monkeys.

How cute is this!!! Annie couldn't resist it.

I'm still drooling over this.

I have been a busy girl all week...my crochet hook has not had time to even cool down. Between working on my afghan and owls, I had the idea for Fang pop into my head and had to put the brakes on everything else until I crocheted him up. I just love him. I will probably fine tune him a bit.

Gettin My Hook On!

I have always thought a picture is worth a thousand words...so I'll show you what I've been up to this week. I have been hooking owls. The idea came to me driving home from work one evening. The rest is history. This is little guy is what a week's worth of crocheting and working out ideas have resulted in. And I think I am most pleased with the results.

This was the first one I worked up. Cute, I know, but I thought he could be cuter.

All very cute. I like the little short one. But, still...not quite there.

Then this little guy, made from some chunky yarn in my scrap basket.

Getting there. But not quite happy with his little horns.

Getting there...I added a little yellow in the eyes and made his horns a little more pointy. LOL!

Definitely getting there. I really liked this chunky yarn, too.

Awww...now that's it...some wings! OK...my work here is done! I will be bringing a pattern soon. But right now I am trying to crank as many of these guys out for a craft sale coming in November.

Scrap Happy Progress

Progress on my Scrap Happy is coming right a long. Maybe a bit slower than normal, but that's okay. I am also working on a shawl. Two projects at one time! It's a bit out of my norm, but I needed something smaller I could carry with me to knit night.

Look at those ziggy zags! That's what makes this so much fun to work on, just watching how the different colors come together. It occurred to me, you could make these into squares and stitch them together. I may have to experiment a bit with that. It would be great for using up those tiny bits of yarn!

How do you like my hook bag? A girl at work had one of those thirty-one bags party. I ordered this little bag, and instead of having my initials put on it, I had "hooks" on it. It is perfect to carrying around my crochet hooks!

Let me share some vintage with y'all. This is a piece of crochet done by my Great Grandmother. I am certain it is in a hand dyed wool. I am not sure what stitch, this is, it looks like a type of shell stich. I am sure I could figure it out or find it somewhere. I think I am going to add this to my ravelry page, I wonder what she would think of that?!!

This is her. She was born in 1888 and died in 1962 a few days before I was born. It gives me such a heart warming feeling to just be able to have these pieces of her crochet.

Here is the doily she made to go with it. And yes, that is her iron! I have more of her items in my possession. Does this not give you just a glimpse into what her life was like? It does me.

Unbelievably, these are in pretty good condition. There is a little hole in the doily, and the dresser scarf is a bit faded. I was thinking about doing this same set for myself. How neat would that be!

Here is another picture of her. She was tiny!! I'll stop here. I could post all day about family history, and share pictures if time would let me!

Jacob's Stripe-ity Scrap-ity All Finished!

I finished up Jacob's blanket last night. I think he'll like the bright bold colors. Can you believe I used all leftovers from my stash!

How do you like the border? I used a denim color blue and added some color to the very edge, followed by a final row of backwards crochet, which gives it a rope-like edging.

Here is an up close view.

I definitely plan on doing another one of these blankets. It's fun mindless crocheting and gives quick satisfaction. Jacob wanted his blanket in bright colors...so this should make him happy! I think when I do another one of these I will go towards the earth tones with some black and whites mixed in.

Progress is coming along on my zig zag afghan and pictures are soon on the way with my progress! In the meantime I wish everyone a great productive week!!!

Scrappy and Happy!

I am so addicted it's not even funny! I started this blanket for my nephew. He likes bright colors. I found this pattern on ravelry and had to jump right in! It's called "Ribbon Afghan" and you can find the pattern here.

This is the perfect project for using up those leftovers, which I have gobs of!!

So...while working on this, I was surfing around ravelry and came across another pattern that is also perfect for scrap yarn. I immediately loved it, so much that I had to go ahead and give it a shot for myself.

OMG! I cannot decide which I like better. The neat thing about this is you can use those little tiny scraps of yarn! You can find the pattern here. It is so much fun to work on.

decrease = insert hook in the sc of previous row and pull up loop, insert hook into next sc of previous row and pull up loop, pull up loop through two loops on hook.

Body (make two)

chain 6

Row 1: sc 5, ch1, turn

Row 2: Increase, sc in next 3 sc, Increase, ch1 and turn

Row 3: Increase, sc in next 5 sc, Increase, ch 1 and turn

Row 4 - 7: sc in each sc, ch 1 and turn

Row 8: Decrease, sc in next 5 sc, decrease, ch 1 and turn

Row 9: Decrease, sc in next 3 sc, decrease, ch 1 and turn

Row 10: sc in each 5 sc, tie off and

Sandwiching the two bodies together, sc the two together

Wings

On one side of the body at about the fifth row from the top, insert hook and pull of loop in a contrasting color of yarn. Ch 1, 4 sc in next 4, ch 1 and turn.

5 sc in each sc of previous row, tie off and weave in the ends.

Repeat this on the other side of owls body.

Locate placement for beak (about midway between top of wings). Make a loop on the hook, wrap loop over hook and insert hook into post of sc on the owl body and pull up a loop, pull up a loop and pull through first two loops on hook. Insert hook into post of next sc post on body and pull up loop, wrap loop around hook and pull up through two loops on hook, pull up loop through remaining loops on hook. Tie off and secure it to the owls body by weaving in the ends.

Feet

Locate placement for feet. Insert hook and pull up a loop, chain 3. Slip stitch in second chain from hook, sc into place where the first loop was pulled up. Chain 2, slip stitch in second chain from hook, sc into same stitch of previous single crochet. Chain 2, slip stitch in second chain from hook, sc into same stitch of previous single crochet. Tie off. Weave in ends.

Repeat this on the other side for the second foot.

Finishing Touches!

Cut three lengths of yarn in your wing color and make a little tie on tassel at each side of head. Attach giggly eyes....and your done!!!

Tah - Dah!! Crochet Log Cabin Blanket!

Well...here it is, in all her glory! And I have to say, I am so pleased with it that I can't stand it! The blanket turned out to be pretty darn close with the image I had in my head.

Would I do another one? You bet I would! I would like to do one with diagonal stripes. But I do love the diamonds!

Most people are unaware of the history behind the log cabin quilt. Each square block is a piece of history in itself. The block is a representation of an early log cabin home that was being built on the wide expanses of the prairie. The story behind the log cabin quilt history block is as follows:

The center block is usually red or yellow, this represents the fire in the hearth.

The light strips of cloth found on one side of the square represent the sun shining on the eastern side of the log cabin.

Likewise the dark strips indicate the shady side of the log cabin.

I loved this the moment I read it!!

I did the border with one single row of red in half double crochet, followed by five rows in dark green. The brown edging is done in a reverse single crochet which gives it that braided edging look.

Even Phoebe has given her seal of approval!

Hootie

Meet Hootie! I have been wanting to crochet some little owls for a craft show I am going to be in coming in November. Isn't he cute! I just sat down and made the little guy up. I am writing down the pattern and will have it ready soon. I was thinking of doing a knit version of him, too. Any-who...it took me all of 20 minutes to work him up. My favorite part, I think the little tassels and the feet make it!

Log Cabin Update: Done! And as soon as I get some photos that I am pleased with I will give the tah-dah! Maybe I can get some this week.

Roosters & Scarves!

I have taken a little "log cabin afghan" break this week to knock out a couple projects, one of those being an order for some of these little guys. I had forgotten how much fun they are to work up, and so cute, too! I think I'll make some more in the next few weeks to go on a craft table this fall.

I also have finished up some scarves that I have been working on while I have been crocheting on my log cabin afghan.

One ruffle scarf done! Believe it or not I used some yarn I bought a Big Lots for $1...yes I said it...$1! I have quite a little stash of it, too. I love it. It is so soft, and the yarn is a lace weight, so it is light and airy. I do LOVE these ruffle scarves!

One stripe-ity scarf done! I used Lion Brand "Amazing" yarn in four different colors, changing through out the scarf. It is all in garter stitch. So simple and so easy!! The colors are truly "amazing"!!

One knit scarf done! I had actually started this quite some time ago, and decided that it needed to be finished up. It's a simple one, just a k2, p2 pattern. I used a chenille yarn from Sugar & Cream. The yarn really worked up into a neat pattern.

So now, what next? Well, I think I may get another scarf started so I have something to take with me to knitting group, and get back with completing my log cabin. I can't wait for the big reveal!!!

Log Cabin Progress

Progress has creeped to a slow scrawl as my blanket grows! But there is progress. I am enjoying watching the diamonds come to life as the blanket gets bigger and bigger!

It's way to hot to do anything here, so this weekend I am going to enjoy the ac, some movies, and some crochet!!! And yes, a little housework.

Log Cabin Progress

Hey y'all!!! Just look at my progress!! I couldn't be more pleased with how it's coming along! I have completed almost another side since taking this picture. I am hoping for a very successful week ahead of me so I can get to the next block.

If I can get my act together I will put together a little tutorial on the construction of a block! I promise!!

Non-Fiber Posting

Whoa, a mid-week posting! Unusual, yes, I know. Normally I would be at Paneras knitting with the girls, but I'm feeling a little tired and worn out this evening...so here I be! I just wanted to share a couple of scrapbooking/cardmaking type projects with you guys. I am also addicted to paper, but it plays second to yarn! Anywho...check out this little family tree I did for my sister. Just have the pictures to add. Is it not the cutest!!

I think the rhinestones make it. I added little leaves cut out on the cricut...

Then we made these cute little kimono cards.

Adorable or what! I found the template on line. Just added a little bling bling..and shazammmm! I have a small collection of oriental stamps that were perfect for this little project. You can get the template here.

Quilting with Yarn

That's exactly how I feel! Like I am quilting with yarn...but I think this is way more fun that quilting! I am thrilled with how this is coming together. I have unravelled blocks, resewn them together, until finally I'm pretty pleased with the pattern.

So does Girlie! I think she likes it.

I am enjoying watching the bands of colors come to life. You can see a blue band coming. I also have some brown in my basket that I will be using.

So, since I have Phoebe's seal approval, I am continuing on! Also, I am thinking I may make another after this blanket to coordinate with it. Maybe for my bedroom. Oh, if I only had more hours in my day to do all I want to do!

I'm off for now, my crochet hook is calling!

Log Cabin Love

Well...I have been a busy girl. Look what I started while in the mountains this past week! I have been wanting to do a log cabin afghan for quite some time. Only thing I knew I had to have was red center squares. So, while relaxing in this absolutely gorgeous log cabin that was sitting on Nantahala Lake, I began making squares. Problem is...I can't decide what exactly I want to do!

You can see what I am talking about. This one has more contrast. Then there is the question on how to arrange them.

Then, I tried other colors. You see where I am going? At this point I am seeking opinions. My mom tells me to use them all. She may have something there!

There is something about these colors that I like. They are so subdued and peaceful. Serene. They remind me of a photograph I took off the back deck of the cabin we stayed in....

See what I mean??? I think I am close to these colors...but not quite. I took this one morning right before a rain shower hit. It was gorgeous there!

Decisions ~ Decisions! I would love any comments that can help me make my mind up!!

Before I go, I want to share just a couple more things with everyone!! My flickr buddy used my Chicken Ornaments pattern and put the cutest spin on it ever!!!!! She is such a talented gal...love her patterns!

Pomp-A-Doodle Scarf-A-Doodle

Well, things have slowly returned to normal around my house! Since finishing up my rug a couple weeks ago, I have needed some quick yarn satisfaction. This Pomp-a-Doodle yarn has got my mojo to flowing! I LOVE this stuff. It is so unbelievably squishy soft. I know were in the middle of summer, and it's hard to think about cold weather, but I have a feeling I will be reaching for this quite a bit when winter gets here.

Isn't it pretty? I used two skeins and simply did a garter stitch. You can't get much easier than that.

They also have this yarn in a pretty red, which I wouldn't mind knitting up.

I do have plans to start another afgan, which I will soon be beginning. My nephew has asked me a couple times now if I have started his blanket. So, with some planning and a trip to Hobby Lobby I will be starting that for him.

In the meantime I am working on a ruffle scarf out of some $1 Big Lots yarn...and it is so neat, I can't wait to share that with everyone!

Monday is almost upon us again....ick! I have a long day tomorrow and a busy week! But I am leaving on Friday to head to the Mountains for a long weekend with my family! I can't wait!

Party Decorations

I wanted to share some of our party creativty with everyone. This is the invitation we made for my folks' anniversary party.

Now, check out our cake! Pretty neat...it looked just like our invites!

And the banner....we put that cricut machine to good use!

The centerpieces were done with layering two kinds of napkins...found where else, my favorite place...HOBBY LOBBY!

And these little wineglass shades were so pretty. Made from scrapbook paper! Put over a small wine glass with a tea light...and it's a good thing...because after we cut our cake a storm blew out our power! These were so fun to make, took all of two seconds. You can get the template here.

And, look at all the company I have had! Yes, this is my family. All five of us kids in the same place, a definite "kodak" moment!! My mom and dad had their 50th Anniversary on the 9th, and we whooped it up with a big ole party for them on Saturday the 11th.

It was great fun, a lot of work, but so well worth it!

Now that it behind us, we are sitting back and looking at the pictures and talking about what a great time it was. And me, of course, well I'm ready to get back to that yarn thang!!! Meeting the girlz tonight for some knitting time! I can't wait!

Shirret Rug ~ DONE!

It is so imperfect, and "homemade" that I LOVE it!! The red corners and the multi-striped borders really make the whole thing for me.

And Phoebe gives it her seal of approval, too! Would I make another one of these? You bettcha, I would! I learned so much in working this rug. Techniques on counting rows, and joining squares. Being a complete "granny square" addict...I can easily see the same possibilities of shirret-ing up squares and joining them together!!!

Don't get me wrong...I love the oval rugs, but I really love "making" the square ones. The wool is so full of color. I actually gravitate towards the wool skirts and jackets now every visit I make to the Goodwill or thrift stores! I am on a mission for some orange. I think I would like to begin another in the fall colors.

I thought y'all would like a little history surrounding these rugs. They are actually a handed down tradition in my family, starting with my great great grandfather.

My great great grandfather had turboculosis and was in a turboculosis sanitorium. There they gave the patients crafts to occupy their time while they recuperated. This is where he learned making rugs. He handed the craft down to his wife, Jessie Green Johnson, who would be by Great Grandmother.

My mom tells me that Grandma Jessie had a rug partially finished when she died, which my grandma had saved. It was in a box along with her hook and instructions, she gave it to my mom and told her, "this needs to be finished". And the rest is history! My mom, the master shirret rug maker, taught me!

I only hope I can hand it down to one of my nieces or nephews along with this story!

Well...I'm on my last side, and then a couple rounds the entire rug and I'll be done. And I'm love'n it!! I think the red squares in each corner of the rug is like the icing on the cake. It just makes it. The next time you see my rug, it will be complete! I'm hoping this weekend!

A trip to Goodwill last week landed me more red wool, just enough to finish this up. Thrift stores are the ideal places to look for wool. $3.75 bought me a long red wool skirt! I stick to the 100% wool, the color and feel work best for these rugs.

I'm out for now, going to put a few more rows in before I hit the hey.

Voila! Red & Black Hexi-gan Finished!

Can you believe it! I finished...and I LOVE it!! I put a simple reverse crochet around the edging. It was all it needed. Would I do another Hexagon Afghan? You bet your boots I would! In fact, I am thinking come this fall I will begin another in the warm fall colors that I so love!

Right now, the blanket has a temporary home on the little whicker love seat with my favorite rooster pillow resting on it. But this is just a temporary home, because this blanket will be gifted!! I can say no more, only that I will elaborate on this later. I will however say, I will miss it!!! But I can always make another afghan!!

NOW...after almost a year in hibernation, my rug has come out of hiding!!! And oh boy...I can't put the darn thing down. I have given it a name..."Buckster's Scrap-Happy Stripe-ity Shirret Rug".

So...what do you think? I am really feeling the striped border. I plan on doing this on all four sides, which a solid square of color at each corner, followed by a couple rows of black bordering the entire rug. As obsessed as I am about it, it shouldn't be too long before it is completed. I am on a mission for more red wook and some yellow, too. Looks like I will be combing the racks at the Goodwill and the Thrift store!

Working with the squares versus the oval rugs I have done, has really been a learning experience. And it has opened up a whole new world for rug designs. I think it really has a "folk-artsy" look to it.

Have any of y'all heard of "roku"? Well, it's about the coolest thing I have seen in a long time. This little box lets us stream Netflix, facebook, and flicker (to name a few) through our high definition television! I was blown away when I got to see my flickr photos in high definition!!!

Well, I'm off. Going to work on my rug and mentally prepare myself for a busy week!

Unfinished Business

Yay....Last night I finished my Red & White Hexi-blanket! Pictures will be forth coming for the final reveal!!

Now with that done, I have plenty of unfinished business I can concentrate on.

Making the unfinished list is my shirret rug. I had forgotten how much I have actually done on this! It is just needing a border, and I am still trying to decide exactly how I want that to look. I think it needs some black in it for some contrast. More to come on this little project!

Next:

This little puppy has been sitting on the back burner for quite some time, why?...I have no idea! It is going to be a totally 70s retro looking scarf. Working it up in some Palette wool. This photo doesn't lie either...it is this bright!

Red Heart Log Cabin Throw

I am totally jonesing to start this afghan. My nephew has asked for an afghan, and I think it would be perfect for him. I have been studying all the different log cabins out there, knit and crochet, and there is not a one of them that I don't like. Do not be surprised if you see a square popping up here on my blog soon!

Hexi-Blanket Progression

What a week! I don't think time can go by any faster, and especially the weekend. Seems like you turn around and it's Sunday evening.

I have made some progression on my hexi-blanket. Actually it is getting close to finished size believe it or not!

Miss Phoebe loves Sundays out on the porch. I relax just looking at her. I was taking pictures of the hexi, and she came and posed right in front of me, which is rare.

I have a little pile of finished hexis waiting on me to attach. I think I will add to them before I do. All the items on my to do list are finished, so I think it's time to sit back with my hook and crochet some more hexi-grannies. Before you know it Monday will be here!

Lastly, I must share a little pic of Phoebe...we enjoyed watching the Royal Wedding so much together. I couldn't help myself!! Doesn't she look like a little fashion plate! I have been calling her, "Lady Phoebe of Burguss Court"!

Freaky Fridays

Progression

Yes, I am really making progress on my hexagons, and loving each and everyone of them. I will crochet up a stack, weave the ends in and then sew them into the blanket. This way I can see it growing as I crochet. The red is so vibrant against the black. I am at the point right now where I cannot put it down. Every spare minute I have goes to making hexies!

This is where I will be this coming weekend. Out on the screened in porch with my yarn and hook, and of course, Miss Phoebe. I am so looking forward to it, too! Things have been so busy this week...some time relaxing and crocheting is just what I need.

Last weekend was fun with Easter and family. So much food! And it was all good. The nieces and nephews had a blast playing, and of course, Ms. Pheebster, got in on the action. She had the time of her life! Just look at that smile!

Such a happy little dog! We'll be back in a couple days with some more progress, until then...have a great week!

Yes, Phoebe and I are in back porch Sunday Heaven! With some country tunes playing in the background, a back drop of crochet...well...it just doesn't get any better than this!

You see how she approves of the Octi-blanket. It is coming right along and gets prettier and prettier, at least I think so. That is basically what I have been doing, crocheting octagons...I can do them in my sleep!!

The back porch has my crochet mojo in full swing! The light and temperature out here is perfect. I have finally been able to get the layer of pollen off of everything and all the plants back into their places. This is their home until next fall arrives. What a great feeling it is to get it all back to the way it should be. All that's left is to replace the ceiling fan out here...easy enough project!

Here on the back porch the reds and greens are in their element. And I am high off the ground, so it's like sitting in a tree house. Pretty cool!

Phoebe and I wish everyone a great Sunday and rest of the week as well. We will both meet you back here next Sunday...bring your yarn and hooks with you!!!

Baby Booties

How do you like the little pair of booties I knit up this weekend? These are so much fun to do and super quick! You can get the pattern here. If you need a cute little baby gift in a hurry, these take all of a couple hours to do. They are done on straight needles and seamed up the back. I have started another pair, but changed up the pattern. I am doing them on double pointed needles so there is no seem up the back. It is working very well. I will share them with you when I finish and write up the pattern.

Octagon Blanket is making good progress. I am crocheting up octies and sewing them together as I get a good pile done. Working this way works best for me, I can actually see the blanket coming together! Working in the evening with seaming up black octies with black yarn has been a bit challenging.

I found a girl on flicker who has totally impressed me with her crocheting skills. She had pictures of this pillow, which has totally inspired me!! You can find her blog here, and be sure and visit her flicker photostream...you will not be disappointed!

I will leave you with a sweet little picture of Phoebe. I snapped it with my camera phone, so the quality isn't the best. (I was standing next to her treat jar! LOL!)

Granny-gon Progression

Just a quick little Sunday evening post to let everyone know I am progressing with my blanket. I couldn't stand it and had to sew together some of the octagons to see how it was going to look. I Like it Much!! I am so anxious for warm sunny weather to get here so I can get pictures of it outside in the proper light. Here it has a purple/pinkish look. Red is so hard to photograph. It is truly red!

Granny Blanket in the Making

Here lately I have been inspired with all the granny squares I have seen people doing on flickr and ravelry. Needless to say, I had to join in!

Once again the Granny Square bug has bitten me. I am now officially obsessed with cranking out these red and black octagons! I have been wanting to do a granny blanket with black in it for some time. And I do love red!! So I grabbed some yarn from my stash and started putting colors together.

After crocheting up a few of these octagons and laying them out I knew I had the makings of an afghan. I think this is really going to be pretty. I plan on joining my octagons with a tapestry needle and black yarn, it will be a lot of stitching, but I think it will be well worth it. The tones of red along with the one variegated yarn are really pleasing me.

I used Square #31 from the Crochet Motifs book. (I do love me this book!)

I also managed to put some left over Noro to some good use with another Queen Anne's Lace scarf!

I was in JoAnne's Fabrics and saw this book! When I got home I grabbed my new book and a cup of tea, I couldn't wait to sit down and look it over from cover to cover. As I was flipping pages I thought to myself, "this really looks familiar". Well...it should be, because I had a copy of this same book on my bookshelf. LOL!! Can you guess I have a lot of knitting and crochet books??! I could take it back, but I decided a crochet bud will enjoy having this so I am giving it to her. If you haven't had a chance to check this book out, I totally recommend it. It is truly full of inspiration!

A Family History Rich in Crochet

Pretty much every Sunday I grab Lil' Phoebe and head to my mom and dad's for some lunch and just plain hanging out. Phoebe loves it because she loves going in the car and has an added bonus of visiting my dad's dogs. Today while I was there working on some crochet while waiting for lunchtime, my mom asked, "Have you seen the tablecloth my aunt crocheted?" Have I seen what?!!! Hold up...why haven't I heard about this before! Well, she got it out, and oh boy, I went nuts! I absolutely love crochet, and to get my hands on something a family member made had me so excited!!!

It's condition is pretty close to perfect. I cannot even imagine the time put into this. And I do believe the crochet stitches are actually the smallest I have ever seen.

I asked mom if she had an old spoon or something I could put in the picture so you could get an idea of just how fine the stitches were. "Oh yeah, I have something right here." Then she pulled out this old silver that belonged to my great grandmother. Okay, so by now I am absolutely losing it! How neat is this? I didn't have my camera, so I did the best I could with my phone camera.

I will upload some more pictures to flickr if anyone is interested. I am so thrilled to have something like this in my family.

Here is a picture of the Anderson Family taken in South Dakota about 1910. My mother's Aunt Alma is the oldest daughter, born in 1900. My grandmother is one of the twins, we don't know for sure which is her and which is her sister.

I could go on and on with things I have learned about this family, but it would make this blog post so long...and there is crochet business at hand. I will say before I get to that, that I have a family history of women who crocheted. It is so rare to have a tablecloth handed down in such good condition is so rare and I am so fortunate to actually get a chance to run my fingers over this is a blessing! I imagine it is at least fifty years old. We are really not certain.

This week I have finished a granny square scarf which I am so happy with! I also finished up a Queen Anne's Lace Scarf which has been sitting on hold for a very long time. After relearning the pattern, I made two little cuffs and added some vintage buttons to them.

(I had to put my grandmother's cameo on this, because it just looks so Victorian to me!)

If I had to do this again I wouldn't use this yarn. The variance from very fine to bulky was a pain in working this pattern. I continually lost count.

I used some vintage buttons from my button box. Pretty!

I did modify the pattern just a tad on the first motif to get it to look symmetrical.

This one I added a vintage button just for looks. I think it turned out quite pretty.

And it slides onto the wrist. The yarn has just enough stretch that this works perfectly. You can see I just joined it through two of the loops.

Needless to say, I have some beautiful buttons that are just screaming at me to use in more of these. It's like a Lay's potato chip, "You can't just make one!"

Crocheted hexagons in pretty yarn,

cute little snow people, and

a crocheted ruffled scarf with some bright white eyelash yarn!

Saturday evening I gathered together some leftover Palette yarn and got out my hook and began to play. Then it happened...I got my granny square mojo back! So now I have the beginning of a new scarf. I love the colors and it is so light and airy. It's so nice to be doing grannies again...how I have missed it.

I posed my latest snowman on those grannies. Not to worry, I am not giving up snowmen, I am working on both. I have quite a collection of them now. They almost look like a little village.

It has been a long Monday, and I am ready to sit back and work on my scarf! Bye for now!

Wow...I am just realizing how behind I have been! I have been productive though.

I have finished another pom-pom snowman. Or should I say snow-girl!

And here is Mr. Helmet Hat. There is something about this little guy I love. He makes me smile.

Now...this little pair of snow people have really made it to my favorites. I made her a brimmed cap with a flower and a little cape. Her partner has a top hat. These were so much fun to make. They definitely belong together.

I managed to get a little bit of crochet mojo going with another ruffle scarf.

The red yarn is from my stash, the remainder is from a Big Lots score! I just love a good yarn score. $1 a ball. You can't beat it! It worked up really pretty. I did a shorter scarf using a chain 90 instead of the 150.

I made the ruffle a little thicker too by adding an additional row.

I am off for now. I have a little snowman on my needles that is calling to me! Buh-bye!

More Snowman Love!

Oh my goodness! Check out this little guy! I named him Waldo. I think he looks like a Waldo. His little helmet hat is way too cute. It was my first attempt a knitting one, and I am very pleased.

This little guy needed a pair of glasses...much like me!!!! I enjoy making these little hats. I really have no pattern for them. I just start knitting and fitting it to the snowman as I progress. How do you like his little half smile??

I named this little guy "Ivan the Snowman"...and boy, is he cute. I believe I have finally honed in on my pattern for the body so it stands nice and straight without me having to add the little crocheted disc to the bottom like I have been doing.

"Beh-Beh", "LuLu", and "Professor Snowball"

Now how cute are these three together! Look at that little capelet and beret on Beh-Beh. I thought it turned out quite cute! Beh-Beh and Professor Snowball are both in my etsy shop.

I have another snowman body to fill and dress, and most likely will get a couple more done this week. I see a group picture coming soon.

I haven't officially named her...but for some reason the name "LuLu" comes to mind when I look at this little snow-girl. That hat!!! It's an instant smile to look at her. I made her a little seed stitch neck warmer and attached a ceramic flower button.

"Cloe"

Look at this little hat. I wanted to try a cloche hat. I will definitely do more! I added a little crochet flower to it. And she is so tiny! I am still perfecting my snowman process and tried a different bottom where I decreased instead of gathering up the ends. It works quite well!

And here she is with her Man! I cabled his scarf. The little cable scarves are so fun to do.

I was actually wanting to get a couple more of these done, but have been under the weather. The doctor gave me this antibiotic (which is heinous!). The cure has almost been as bad as the infection. I didn't even look at any yarn for about four days. My husband tells me, I know you are sick if you do not knit or crochet. He's so right. I make time for yarn every day!!

Happily I am feeling a lot better and back to my normal daily indulgence. I have a couple more snowmen bodies done and ready to be stuff and faces added. I hope I'm not boring everyone with these little guys!

Happily I bring you more snow people today! As you will see I have been busy with these little guys. Their cuteness still gets me every time I look at them. I hope you enjoy them as well!

This sock yarn is great to work with for their hats. It has so many colors in it they all look a bit different. I picked up a new ball of sock yarn this morning, too. Can't wait to see how it works up.

There's no man like a 'Snowman"!

I am back in snowman production!! I had forgotten how much fun they are to work up. And when I finish one up, well...they just make me smile!

I finished this little guy up this morning. Is he not just the cutest thing??!! I like to give them names. I'm thinking, "Smiley".

"Peggy Tails"

I made Peggy Tails for a girl I knit with. Notice her little "stripe-ity" scarf!! She loved it!

This little "snowgirl" was a special order. She asked for one with a birthday hat and in pink. I think she turned out quite cute!

I am getting emails on the pattern for these. I really have none. It's just a little tube. They look like a tylenol capsules before I put the faces and dress them. I am using the "magic loop" method on a size US1 circular needle for them. If you haven't tried it you need to!! My Knitting Bud taught me and it opened a whole new world to me. I would fight with double pointed needles. She is an awesome sock knitter and a magic loop goddess! You can visit her blog, "House of Tater" to check out her knitting!

Well, I finally found it! Some Lion Brand "Amazing" yarn. Where? At A.C. Moore! And it is truly amazing! Although I wanted the "Ruby" they were out, so I came home with "Mesa". This is pretty yarn. I want more! I am thinking of doing another one of these scarves but doing it half the length. I'm putting that on my to do list.

I made this one for my sister. I used this new yarn call Mosaic by Bernat, in the color "Ninja". Two skeins exactly. If you crochet loosely you may want to get three skeins.

Before I go, I just have to share my freakishly long ruffle scarf! I came across it this weekend when I was organizing all my scarves. I did this after I first learned to knit. Something went wrong somewhere. I kept running out of yarn and back to the craft store to get more. When I bound it off, I realized it was a bit long!

I don't know what else I can say, LOL!

The roast is in the oven and smelling really good, my headache is gone, and I am going to settle in and work on another snowman. I love Sundays!

More Stripe-ity Scarf-ity!

Yes, more stripe-ity knitting here. I have been meaning to knit up a scarf for my sister in law for quite awhile, and this past week I decided that this one is hers. I have to say, of all these striped scarves I've done, I like this one the best-est! I think it's the red and burgundy in it.

I still have a good stash of variegated yarns, which I find myself adding to every time I hit one of the craft stores, so I am sure there will be more stripe-ity knitting in my future!

I think she could wear it with just about anything!

Laura's wrap is in the mail and on its way to her. I can't wait until she gets it, I am so anxious to see how she likes it. I was able to get some pictures of it on me. It looks great on the dress form, but I wanted to see it on a human body, with real hips! LOL

I really like it wrapped with the buttons at the shoulders. Front view looks the same either way wrapped. I actually wore it around the house for a little while and it stays in place nicely, and boy is it warm!!

What next? A couple of snowmen are on the way. I had a girl at work ask me for a snowman. Well, it's just as easy to make a couple of them at a time as it is just one...and I can't wait to share because they are CUTE!

Laura's Wrap

Boy have my fingers been busy! I am just about finished with Laura's Wrap. Let me share some pictures!

Excuse the scarf pin. I had decided once I put it on the dress form that I did not like where I had the buttons and button holes, so the left back ribbing is coming out and I am going to do it so it will button up in this fashion. I have already got it ripped and and have a few rows of ribbing worked.

While playing around with this I found another way to wrap it around the body which I think looks really pretty.

I basically wrapped it the opposite with the ribbing at the top. Cute! Whatcha think? And once I get the buttons in I think it will give me a couple more ways to wear it. I'm so happy with this. I am going to try and get some picture of it on my body once I get it complete.

All this color makes me happy!

I also dusted off my size "P" crochet hook to crank out a ruffle scarf out of some yarn I picked up at JoAnne's Fabric. It is so soft and squishy and full of texture and color.

Yes, it is a little longer than I would have liked to have it, but that's okay by me. Once I put it on I didn't want to take it off. I have some really soft homespun in this, some fun fur, and some pretty variegated. I haven't decided if I am going to keep this one or if it will go in my etsy shop.

"Ruffle-y"

I'm off to do some Saturday morning things. Plans are to sit in and watch a movie tonight and work on some knitting! Tah-Tah!

More Rooster Love!

Hello everyone! I wanted to squeeze in a little more Rooster Love before Monday morning once again approaches and time becomes scarce! So many have already been asking for a pattern. Well, I have one in draft form. It will probably be a few more days before I get it into final form.

As you can see I have been busy crocheting roosters! Everyone who sees them is wanting one, so I am trying to get this brood done for some Christmas presents.

Looks like a LONG Monday ahead for me, Tuesday night knitting group, and before you know it Christmas Eve will be here! Wow, I'm so unprepared this year and have tons of last minute things to do before Friday, so if I don't get a chance to say so before Friday, I hope you all....

Rooster Love

The past week I have been itching to crochet up some ornaments. Rooster ornaments! This idea has been swishing around in my head for quite some time, and all it took was a night of insomnia to get me to actually get the hook and yarn out and make it happen.

Are these cute or what!! I have to admit, working on these and fine tuning my idea has given me some extra hooky giddiness! It has been so much fun working these up in different color combinations.

These two have already found a new home on my mom & dad's tree. I have made more, and hopefully tomorrow we will get some sunshine so I can get some decent pictures of the others to share. And there will definitely be a pattern coming, but that will probably be after Christmas.

My crochet hook has not cooled down this week. Scarves were made for my knitting girls this week! More ruffle scarves! I was so happy they liked them! They affectionately call me "the hookah" because I am the only one in the group that crochets. This year I wanted to crochet something for each of them.

I have also finished another ruffle scarf for a good friend. I am not sure about it though. I personally, wouldn't hesitate to wear it...but I am a bit anxious about whether she will like it or not.

I am calling this a "boa" because it is so full. I did the alternate on the pattern where you only chained 90 and worked the pattern, then worked the pattern again on the same chain to make it full.

Me, well I would have no problem wearing it. But you can see it is very full. I think it would be very pretty worn over a black turtle neck and some jeans and boots. I am just worried she won't like it. I am still thinking about doing another one without the extra ruffle.

I am totally digging this "Gelato" colored variegated yarn (Hobby Lobby, I Love This Yarn). I think the orange and burgundy with it are the perfect combo. The pom-poms are just plain fun!

7 days til Christmas...I better get busy!

Ruffles and Puppy Dogs!

Hey everyone, I am back, and yes, with another ruffle scarf...but I just can't help it!! I am working on Christmas gifts, and I think these will be perfect for a couple gals I have on my list!

Let me start off by showing you more ruffles. You know me...I had to give it a go in some Hobby Lobby "I Love This Yarn". And it really works!

I have a special friend in mind for this scarf and think it will look gor-ge-ous on her! Don't you just love all those colors?

Here is a ruffle close up, giving you a chance to see all the colors. I have another yarn in mind for another one of these scarves, so I do hope I am not boring everyone. I hope to be inspiring!

Here is a picture I snapped of Phoebe looking very sweet, and a little blurry! Everyday this little creature gets more loving...I cannot imagine life without her!

It's been a long day here. The Christmas Tree is up part way and I am in the mood to finish it up, so I am out of here. I hope to bring you pictures of a finished tree adorned in some handmade ornaments!

Ruffles

Noro + Ruffles = :-) This is now my most favorite scarf! The pattern is from Lion Brand. I am Jones'n to get my fingers on their new yarn "Wonderful", but haven't seen it in the stores yet. But the Noro I had in my stash was just begging to be used for something like this!

Is it not gorgeous!!!

Yes, it makes me happy to wear it! I have already gotten several compliments on it. And these days, ANYTHING that makes me smile is a good thing. I have a serious case of the Christmas Blahs. Never have I been like this. Normally the house is all decorated and Christmas projects are done, but not this year. Here it is the 6th and the tree is still in it's box!

I have already finished another, that I did in a super duper soft yarn. Girlie Camos and a soft grey.

And yes, this one makes me happy, too! It is highly likely that this one will go under the Christmas tree.

Granny's Back!

I brushed off my crochet hook and finished this up this week. It has been sitting in a corner taunting me for quite some time now. So now, I have the crochet bug really bad! But before I dive into another granny project I have a knit wrap to get done.

Today I managed to get some hours of sunlight during my lunch hour, so I snapped some pictures to share. I must say, "I love this!" Yarn and all!

I like the way I can make a little cowl collar when I wrap it this way. I put a little single crochet edging around the entire granny. Actually it's a chain 3, single crochet.

And the colors, well...they are my faves! Warm fall colors!

Here's a little close up. You can see the edging, and that blue band of color gives me a little skippy heart beat!

I have had this yarn for quite some time, saving it for a half granny square wrap...and this one is all mine! I used Pallet Fingering Weight Wool from Knit Picks. The colors it comes in are stunning...I would like a couple balls of each!

Curiosity Scarfisity!

Here I be doing my best to model my "curiosity scarf", named so because I was simply curious what these two variegated yarns would look like worked up together. My assessment is...BAM! Looks pretty freakin cool to me! It's all in Hobby Lobby Stripes in two colors: (1) Hobby Lobby Stripes Seaspray Ombre & Seaspray, and (2) Hobby Lobby Stripes in #804 Surprise Stripes. Well, the combination proved me wrong…they compliment each other very well!

I am now beginning to think that there could be no wrong combination of colors put together!!

I apologize my scarf model was way too busy this weekend, so I had to model it and photograph it (not and easy task). I hope to have more pictures soon!

Amidst the choas of everyday life in Sparksville right now, I have managed to squeeze out another scarf! I couldn't be more pleased with how the striping turned out.

As you can guess, here lately I am so obsessed with working with this variegated yarn...and I can't seem to step away from it. I want to try every color combination I possibly can. LOL!

I had to make another Hobby Lobby run on Saturday. And once I got in side I made a B-line straight for the yarn department. LOL. I had so much left over variegated yarn left over from one of my granny shawls, shown below, that needs to be used up.

These colors are a little out of my comfort zone. I prefer the warmer earthtones. So, I looked, and thought to myself, why don't I find something that I think would NEVER go with this! BRILLIANT!!! So I grabbed a skein of gray, black and fushia variegated yarn...what next??

Well.....

Just look!

I LIKE IT! I was thinking that this experiment might turn out to be Butt Ugly, but in fact, it is really looking pretty! I have a good twelve inches worked up, and hoping during this holiday week and a long weekend I can spend some time knitting on it and enjoying the colors! Perhaps while watching some good Christmas movies!

I also want to share a crochet project I have had hiding in the corner, that is calling my name. I pulled it out and did a couple rows on it as well.

I'm afraid I will be on this variegated yarn kick just a while longer. And when I can use acrylic yarns from Hobby Lobby and they come out looking like this...well, it's pretty much a given! I'm thinking these will make great Christmas presents. And who doesn't love a hand knit scarf for Christmas?!

Now if time would just slow down for a bit that would be great. I know there is no way I will get all want want done before Christmas gets here. But I'm going to give it my best shot!

The Technicolor Dream Scarf

Once again, I cannot put down the variegated yarn! I just can't step away from it.

Can you see why???!! I used two different skeins of variegated yarn and this is the effect I got from it. This is such an easy and fun stitch. A k2, p2 changing yarn every two rows. I used one skein each of Hobby Lobby's "I Love This Yarn" in Candy Corn Ombre, and Jazz Stripes.

It makes a pretty striped scarf. When Hubs saw it he said it was the Technicolor Dream Scarf. I liked it!

I believe these will be Christmas presents for some of my favorite gals.

I have already begun another! I also have another wrap to do and a little girl's scarf. So things are quite busy.

Although I have been on vacation this week, it has been very busy! My 30th class reunion was last night. I had worked on it for the past nine months. Stressed, planned, worried, anticipated...and it finally arrived. Everyone had a great time. I have mixed emotions...although I am glad it finally got here so I could quit stressing and worrying about it...I am also sad that it went by so quickly, there were so many people I wanted to catch up with and just didn't get the chance.

Here we are. Class of 80.

Blog Post on the Fly!

Good Lord things have been nuts! It's been a crazy world in Sparksville this past week. It seems to be calming down a little bit, which is great for both me and Mr. Sparks!

Firstly, SAFF was great. The Girlz and I had a blast. We all brought back preeties. Had some super carbage. Enjoyed the beautiful Asheville color! And had some good girl time sitting around in our room in the evening knitting.

Here is my knitting bud Annie, modelling some cute little finger puppets we found in a booth! We both decided we need to make some of these!

I snapped this in Downtown Asheville with my phone camera...the downtown was absolutely beautiful.

It was a whirlwind weekend, but so fun meeting old Ravelry friends and seeing all the yarn!

I did manage to finish up a couple scarves this past week, which I can't believe.

I couldn't be more pleased. I love working this pattern. And the self striping yarn really adds. The yarn is from Hobby Lobby, their house brand, "I Love This Yarn".

This chevron pattern really makes a pretty ripple. I have plans to make another one, but will be shaking it up a bit in my usual manner...that's all I'm going to say for now! :)

Another picture, just because! LOL!

Check out my Noro Stripe! Cute? Once I saw Mel making one I wanted to do the same. I added a solid black wool because I did not have two kinds of Noro in my stash. I really like it!

I do believe I will give it a soak in some fabric softener to lessen the scratchiness of it. I used a k2, p2 ribbing and switched yarn every two rows to create the stripe. I have been thinking that all those left over variegated yarns I have stashed away may be just perfect for more of this!

Let me share with you this gorgeous hand spun hand dyed mohair I snagged at SAFF. I saw a wrap there I loved made from mohair, but in a color that really wasn't me. I picked up this mohair with that in mind. Problem was I grabbed the brushed mohair. It needed a fingering weight thread to go with it, so I paired it up with this garnet colored wool.

This is working up really fast. I think once I get it to the width I want and bind off, I will cast on at each end and add a ruffle. I can see it in my head, let's just hope it turns out that way! LOL!

So, I'm off of here for now. I hope to be back later this week with my wrap progress. I also have a couple projects to get started on for a couple customers. Another variegated wrap and a little girl's scarf. If only I had more time! *sigh*

Finished Wrap!

Yay me! I got it done. This is truly "variegated yarn insanity"! I think some knitters would really sneer at the constant changing of yarn, but I like it. It keeps my interest. I love to watch how the colors work out. Weaving in ends has never bothered me. I find that I get bored with something if it is all one color. So I guess you could say, this keeps me going!

I think adding the ribbing was a good move. It gives it a pretty edging.

Here's a back view. I put in three buttonholes, but it could easily be changed up. It would be pretty with buttons all the way down the edging, of course, I would have to increase the length for that.

It also looks pretty wrapped around the shoulders. I had to experiment while I had my camera out...that's just how I am.

This picture reminds me of a cowl neck sweater I used to have back in the 70s!

So, now I have another one to make! But first I want to finish a couple of scarves I have been working on. And I miss my crochet hook bad!!! I do have a half granny square shawl started that I am itching to work on again. I just might have to pull it out and finish it up just to change up things.

So here it is Sunday evening, and once more Monday is closer than I would like it to be. Three day weekends would be so nice! But I don't see that happening. Next Friday I leave with the girls in knitting group to go to SAFF! I cannot tell you how much fun it was last year. My eyes glazed over when I walked in and saw all that yarn. EVERYWHERE! Hand dyed and hand spun yarn, for as far as the eye could see! I'll definitely take my camera this year and share some pictures.

I'm off to work on a scarf and kick back with a movie. Hope everyone has a great week!

WIP - Body Wrap Near Completion!!

I am so close to finishing this up I can't stand it! I do love it when I get something near to being finished and you can see everything coming together. This is a special order. I took a little creative freedom and added the ribbing around the entire wrap. Have to say...me likey!

I couldn't help it, I had to put it on the dress form and snap some pictures. I think the ribbing helps it fit to the body. The back will have a couple of buttons to keep the whole thing on the bod. I haven't quite got to the point yet.

Here's a little close up. I am calling this "Crazy Insane Variegated Yarn Body Wrap"...the insanity for the continuously changing of colors and weaving in of ends. There will be a final "tah - dah" later this week when I get it finished up. I was hoping to get that done this weekend, but time is winding down and I still have a few more hours to put into this. I am also writing a pattern for it to go into my etsy shop, in case anyone wants to partake in the insanity.

Let me also share with you a couple of scarves I have on the needles!

I got this pattern from "The Little Box of Scarves" the pattern is called Chevron and Feather scarf by Melissa Mathay and Sheryl Theis. I love it! I am using some Hobby Lobby "I Love This Yarn" in one of their variegated stripes.Couldn't be more pleased with out it is working up.

Striped Noro Scarf. My Wednesday Night Knitting Partner in Crime turned me onto this little scarf, and I just had to give it a try! You can find the pattern here.

I like it! Especially with the black in it. I am using a k2, p2 ribbing, and it is working out great.

Before I go, I just wanted to share a few pictures I snapped last weekend. I went to a horse farm, and yes, fell in love with the horses!

Lately as I have been fiercely working on an order for two wraps (which I am getting close to finishing up), my mind is drifting to scarves and Christmas presents. I pulled this picture up for some inspiration. I knit this up using Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn Stripes. I'm thinking I need to do another as a Christmas gift.

Oh, if only I had more hours to my day! But how many of us do???

So, in the meantime I have pulled out more of this yarn in a different color and begun a chveron pattern knit scarfy! And I am liking it! So much that now I don't want to work on completing the last wrap I have been working on!

OH THE INHUMANITY OF IT ALL! LOL

Not to worry, I am hoping that by this weekend I will finish up the wrap and send it on its way, and focus on some scarfy goodness!

For now, it's back to the grindstone!

Wrapped in Color

Greetings to my fellow yarn lovers! It's a cool rainy Sunday afternoon here, which suits me just fine. Summer has been brutally hot and dry. Today we are welcoming the rain...it's good yarn weather! This rain makes me want to cozy up the house, have some soup and curl up on the couch with some yarn. It's lazy and I LOVE it!

How do you like my latest? Another wrap! This one is a little shorter than the last one I did and I really like it. It's versatile and fun to wear. And just look at that color!

Does it not look gorgeous on my niece with that scarf pin! I am still amazed at how all this variegated yarn works together.

My niece especially liked it worn as a scarf. Can't say that I disagree. It looks adorable on her.

I have already started my next wrap. A customer wants two. One down, one to go. I am doing something a little different on the next one. Experimentation! If I don't like it I can always unravel the thing. When I sketched it out on paper it looked great, now if I can just knit it up.

Here's hoping for a good week ahead. This week I started out under the weather. Geesh!! Now that that's behind me I can focus on doing creative things.

I tried my best to get a picture of Phoebe today while I had my camera out, but she was so uncooperative. She detests that camera. But I'm not giving up...I'll get her.

Sundays, Yarn and Puppy Dogs

Time seems to be moving faster, and I seem to be moving slower! I was hoping to get a posting up last week, but it just didn't happen. Since it has been a couple of weeks, I am loading this post up with some pictures.

So here is a little up close and personal look at my latest WIP. I was asked to make two of my Bhuja Wraps! Why of course I can do that. While working on this I am also working on writing up the pattern as well.

It is coming along well and hopefully by the end of the week wrap number one will be done. The picture has it looking very "pink" but in fact the color is quite warm and looks more red. I am working on getting some better pictures.

Phoebe completely gives it her seal of approval. Can you resist that cuteness?? I cannot!

She has gotten so fluffy here lately.

Just look at those stubby feet! They are adorable!

I have also found a few hours to crochet up this little shrug/wrap. I used this yummy cotton. I wish I had a live body to show it to you on, because it looks so much cuter on.

I am sure I will enjoy wearing it this Fall.

Since I had the camera out I snapped some pictures from around the house. I have been slowly adorning corners here and there for Fall, my favorite season of the year.

Well, Phoebe is telling me it's time for her supper! LOL! It's hard to type with a little doggie trying to get on my lap! Bye for now....

Cabled Neckwarmer

Suffering from a bit of burnout, I decided Friday evening I needed to shake things up and start a new knitting project. And I wanted something different. So I found this pattern on ravelry. It had this pretty cable in it, and didn't require a lot of yarn! Ka-ching!

So, I delved into the world of cables! My first time! And now I am so obsessed with anything that has a cable in it. Whatcha think??? This pattern is called Chunky Dunky. I actually worked this up in one evening.

I enjoyed it so much, I knit another. I bought this yarn last year at SAFF and have been saving it for just the right project. I have another skein of this waiting to be used, and was thinking of changing up the pattern just a little bit.

OK...now I must say...I'm ready for neckwarmer weather!

Time management has been out of control these days! I cannot find enough time to do all that I want to. After spending the day at work, I'm too tired to get anything done in the evening. I've ramped up the vitamins and put myself on a diet, cutting the caffeine down and upping the water. Hopefully this will help. I am now a firm believer in "Stress Tabs"...they really do help!

Dishcloths and Potholders!

Holy Cow! What a week! Work has been crazy. By the time I get home in the evening I'm not worth a flip. I did manage to get in some knitting time this weekend. I whipped up some dishcloths and pot holders for a couple of birthday gifts.

Check out this new pattern I found on Ravelry!! Very easy and quick to do. It's called Wheatfields. Check it out and give it a try!

This basket weave pattern is also really pretty. I am hoping to make up a few more of these to go in my kitchen and some also for my moms.

Of course, no set of dishcloths is complete with out some crocheted granny square pot holders!

I really enjoy making these, two solid grannies sandwiched together and then connected with a row of single crochet. I really wanted to get more of these done, but time just wouldn't allow it.

Here it is Sunday evening already. I could seriously use another day before Monday gets here, but that's out of the question. I think the rest of the evening I'll kick back and do some more knitting then hit the hay at a decent hour.

Bhuja Wrap

In yoga "Bhuja" means "arm" or "shoulder. I actually knit this wrap up for a friend who is very much into yoga. She explained to me that after doing the yoga they go into the meditation positions, and the body actually gets cold. This meditation wrap is used to wrap around the arms and shoulders to keep warm.

I feel like I have been working on this forever. Needless to say I was really thrilled to get it finished and see it on a real live person!

I do like this stitch. It looks so much like a woven piece of fabric. As you can see I used all variegated yarns and randomly changed them out.

Check it out wrapped around the shoulders with a shawl pin. Oh my goodness!

So...I am glad to have this done because I find myself looking at a pile of yarn in these gorgeous Autumn colors and have begun some more granny square action! I also need to whip out some dishcloths and pot holders for a birthday gift.

The weekend is coming to an end too fast for me. I hope to spend the rest of it up kicked back with a crochet hook and maybe a good movie!

Crazy Insane Granny Square Madness!

I have been chomping at the bit to get pictures of this taken and up on the blog! This my friends is the reason I so love to make grannies! Every last stitch of it. I call it a "Halfgan" because it is simply half of a granny...but oh, the yarn has absolutely rocked this!

I crocheted it all in variegated yarns...mostly those from Hobby Lobby in "I Love This Yarn". I also have a couple of variegated yarns from TLC. I could tell before I got to my fifth round that I was going to be obsessed with this.

Mostly in this post I want to post pictures, so you can take in as much of this eye candy as possible!

Here's the back view. I put tassels at the two ends to give it a little weight, this way it stays "wrapped" around the shoulders easier.

Here's a closeup of all that color...is it not yummy!

I think it is truly insanely beautiful. I would encourage anyone to just go wild with this, go pick out some variegated yarn and go to town. I believe I used about nine colors...but I think two or three colors would be just as pretty.

So...the insanity doesn't stop here I'm afraid. You see, I have a basket full of leftovers and a pair of idle hands. So, what better way to use them up than in a granny scarf.

Oh shut your mouth! LOL...I totally dig this too! I'm already determined to make more of these. They are quick instant gratification.

Yup, this is the reason I love to crochet!!!

Just check this out! I call it "Tropical Waves Half Granny Wrap". My niece looks so cute in it.

And here's a view from the flip side. These colors are a little "out of the box" for me, but they did come together nicely. I had a request a couple months ago for a meditation shawl in these colors. After knitting on it for quite some time I decided I was not at all happy with it. I didn't like the way the colors changed and told my gal that I wanted to scrap it and crochet her something. I'm not sure if she will like this, and if so, I have an idea floating around in my head of a knit shawl.

I also finished up a scarf this weekend. It will be just perfect to wrap up in this winter, it's guaranteed not to be scratchy, the boucle yarn has made it very soft against the skin.

So, you like? The fun fir mixed with the boucle make it look as if the ends were real fur!

I so enjoy knitting these scarves up. I guess it's because I get to change colors so much, and I like the graphic patches of black. I'm not sure yet what will become of this scarf, maybe gifted at Christmas or go into my etsy shop. And since all my knit and crochet projects are completed I'm thinking of starting another!

All in all it's been a productive weekend. Busy, but productive. Today I went to my brother's house to make some cards with my sis-in-law! We had a blast and I have a couple of pics I wanna share with y'all!

This is a pumpkin card I made. All I did was rubber stamp the leaves and the pumpkin and water colored them, then cut them out and pop-dotted them on the rust background and added some ribbon. It turned out quite nicely!

Here are a couple of "girlfriend" cards. Very simple and very cute!

I have one more thing to share before I go. My brother has gotten very creative with the back patio this year! It's lush and green and full of color. I must say, I am quite impressed! Just check out these flowers he planted.

Now how neat is that! He planted these flowers in an old worn out pair of boots! I love it!
