Busy Hands!!!

I'm here.  It has been so hard lately to just find the time to sit down and update my blog.  Where is the time going?  But, I have been busy crocheting, knitting, and spray painting in between working and doing the normal daily rigmarole.

Of course, I can always find some moments to make some little hooties!

They are for an etsy order, but I am enjoying them before they head off to their new home. 

So...I have finished up some more hats, some fingerless mitts, a pair of socks, and a scarf.  I can share some hats and mitts with you, and will have to get another pretty day to get pictures of my finished socks and scarf.

I came across this pattern for fingerless gloves called "Toast".  I love it!!!  It is a quick, easy, fun pattern.  I am going to remember it come Christmas project time!

My sister-in-law is modelling them for me.  I am pretty sure she needs a pair for herself.  LOL!

These are with the same pattern.  I just didn't finish the thumb and I did a ribbing on each end.

 

I have been in a crocheting hat mode for a little while now.  I think it is because of the instant gratification you can get from them.  And, you really don't need a pattern.  I love these little ear-flap hats!

 Oh, here is another pattern I came across.  It is called "Divine" .  Don't be fooled...it may look difficult, but I am here to tell you it is not!  With a pretty yarn it is really quite impressive!

Here is another chemo-cap done up in half-double crochet.  Our knitting group made some caps up for a lady one of the women knew who was going through some strong chemo.  

How about some thrift-store love???  

I am a freakin sucker for a piece of junk and a can of spray paint...especially red spray paint.  I wish I had taken a before picture.  I found this little cabinet at the Salvation Army for $1.50!!  Took it apart, sprayed it down.  The hardest part was getting it back together!!  The frosting on the cake is when I added the paper to the back.  

It is going to make a great home for my owl collection!!

Now I am off to enjoy what is left of this Sunday.  The time change has got me a little off, and I am really going to dread it in the morning!  But for the moment, all is good.  Time for a new knitting project!

Thrifted!

I came across these granny square blankets at the local thrift store I frequent every Friday, also known as "Thrift Store Friday".  There is nothing better than hitting your favorite thrift with one of your favorite buds!  It is now a weekly scheduled appointment that is on our work calendars!! 

So, back to my find, I found these red and white granny blankets from an aisle over...they caught my eye and I made a B-Line straight to them.  First of all...it always tugs at my heart a little bit when I see crocheted blankets and afghans hanging on the rack!  And then I most likely take it home to me, where I know it will me loved and appreciated!

My thinking is that I will repurpose them.  Heck, for $6 a piece what could I lose!   I like the punch of red and think it would look really pretty on my bed. 

You can see that granny square pillow case, which is actually a small granny blanket I rescued a couple weeks ago and made a couple repairs on.  I seamed it up into a pillow case and put it on the bed.  Love it!!

So, this is kinda what I am thinking.  I just folded it over the pillow to get a feel for it.  Of course, I am going to disassemble it and wash and block the squares.  They are well done, I just think the seaming throws them a bit out of wack. 

So, thought???  I am still moving them around the house, and also had the thought of making the two blankets into one.  For now I will get them cleaned and blocked and ready for whatever I end up doing with them.


Ruh Roh!!

Yesterday I took my mom and sister in law to the Goodwill.  We came out with some fun stuff.  I picked up this little gorilla for $1.  I had to have him.  He makes the perfect valentine buddy! 

My girlfriend invited us over Saturday evening for some take out and visiting.  She texted me earlier that afternoon and said, I wanna make cards, can you bring your owl stamps?  Well...that's a no brainer...of course!

So this is what I came up with.  A big heart valentine!  We had a blast cutting, glueing, and I really enjoyed the doodling!

How could this not make anyone smile!  My plan is she will get it back on V-day...along with a box of Girl Scout Cookies and a message on the back that valentine that will say, "You Rock"! 

Lastly, I wanted to share some little dollar store owls that I finally spray painted this week.  I still have two more waiting to be done. 

Aren't they cute!  The one on the right is one I found at Dollar Tree.  You can see what they look like originally.  I could only find one, but keeping my eye out for the others!

Their shapes are adorable! 

I found this little guy at the Dollar General.  I put a coat of spray paint on him, too.  He needs a little more to even him out, but I like em. 

I am back to my Sunday afternoon.  I am trying to get the house straight and cleaned up before another work week cranks up.  I will most likely have a finished pair of socks to share next week and who knows what else I will find on Thrift Store Friday!

Hats - Hats - Hats!!

I am love'n the blue!  I have had this yarn so long I can't remember where it came from.  It's a bitch to crochet, but oh boy, for something like this it couldn't have been a better choice.  The brim is some extremely chunky chenille I had just a small amount of. 

So, I am claiming the blue hat as mine.  Isn't it cute with a scarf tied to it!!

Here is a hat I made from some homespun.  We tried this on Brad's mom and it looked really cute on her.  I didn't follow a pattern for this, I normally do not for my hats.  I like just sitting down and letting the creative juices flow. 

Here is a cute little "helmet" hat.  It is so soft and warm.  It looks cute on the wig head...not sure if my head can pull it off though!  LOL!! 

I love the flapper hats.  I wish I looked good in red, but it just isn't me.  Brad's mom tried it on, and it wasn't here either.  But it is so cute, and I am sure there is someone out there it would look good on.

Now, this looked adorable on Brad's mom.  I used an old thrifted sweater.  It looks cute on everyone who had tried it on. 

So now, Sunday evening, I am pooped!!  We have stayed busy all week and weekend.  Seems just sitting on the sofa like a veggie seems perfect.  The weather is warning of more ice in the morning, which is not how I want to start the work week off on. 

I picked up some pretty sock yarn this week in hopes of casting on for a new pair of socks.  And I also have some flannel and a thrifted denim shirt I have already cut up waiting on me to do something with.  Plus plenty of infinity scarves I need to list in my etsy shop.  But for now, I am feeling some nap time coming on!

Ladies and Gentlemen, We have a Pair!

Tah - Dah!!  Yay!  A pair of socks.  And they fit like a freakin glove!  LOL!!   Socks have always intimidated me.  They looked so hard.  But my Biscuits (my knitting group, we call ourselves Biscuits) encouraged me.  They were all doing it, so I jumped in the pool.  I drank the Kool Aid.  I caved!  The last pair I did, which was my first, were a bit big.  So I moved down to a size 1 needle.  That was all it took!  I have purchased a good top-down sock book and am ready to jump in head first.

I am not sure if I have shared with everyone that my mother-in-law has been fighting cancer.  She has fought so hard for the past five years.  Breast Cancer, which has now spread into the lung.  Christmas and New Years left her with a hard case of pneumonia and in the hospital.  Wednesday my husband went with her back to the oncologist.  Although her doctor couldn't say that more chemo would help, she offered the suggestion in hopes to help the lung strengthen.  So she has begun another round of chemo.  

She will lose her hair.   I decided I would like to make her some chemo caps.  I will probably crochet one, but I was worried it would be too itchy.  So I got to googling and found some ideas.

So, here is what I came up with.  I popped it up with a scarf and a pin (both of which are hers).  I used old tee-shirts that Brad was getting rid of.  It is so soft and I hope it will be comfy for her.

And it is reversible!!  Here it is reversed with no bling at all.  

OK...so I can't give her just one!  She has to have an assortment and I have a huge pile of tee shirts to use.  I can't think of a better use!

I really like how one hat can have so many looks!

And here it is reversed.    I have a nice little collection of scarves I have picked up at thrift stores.  At the time I bought them I had designs of reusing them somehow...so there ya go! 

After doing these two I realized how much gratification out of sewing these caps up and started thinking that maybe it can be something I can do for other cancer patients.  

Y'all have a great week.  If anyone is interested in some directions, I followed a little tutorial to make these.  Here are the directions.  I will mention that I went up to 23" on the measurement because the 21.5" was too tight.

Recycled Flannel Infinity Scarves

I have been having a bit of a problem getting my photos to upload to blogger.  Finally, with much frustration and a bit of cursing, I was able to get some posted!  Has anyone else had any problems???

Can you tell what I have been doing? 

One of my favorite pastimes, Goodwill!  I have been buying flannel pajama pants and repurposing them into infinity scarves! 

 Aren't they cute???  And you talk about soft!! 

And I have also been able to cross something off my list I have been wanting to do for a long, long time! 

  

You got it!!  I have made my first pair of socks!  And oh my, I now understand what all the buzz is around knitting socks.   I am totally obsessed with it.  I did these from the toe up (which I love this method).  They are far from perfect, but I love them!  I was using a size 2 circular and I think since I do not knit as tight as most, I decided to go down to a size 1 for my next pair.

That seems to have solved my problem.  This one fits perfectly!  I finished this last night and am now ready to start on its mate. 

But for now, I must rest my elbow.  I never knew tendenitis could hurt so bad!  I am doing my best to let it rest up and heal.  The steroid shot seems to have helped quite a bit.

It is still a bit swolen, but much better!!!

I wanted to pop in and wish everyone a blessed Christmas.  And also I have one last crochet ornament to share.

A pretty little crocheted lantern .  I saw the idea while goggling "vintage crochet".  I didn't see a pattern for it, but it looked simple enough to figure out.  

It is simply 5 six-sided grannies joined on on side, then a 2 five-sided grannies on the top and bottom.  I added a tassel.  It came together so fast.  I wish I would have had time to make up some more!  I could see these crocheted up in embroidery thread!
