Grannies and Dacshunds!

Greetings from Phoebe!  Like her blanket?  I snagged it at the thrift store for $9!!  I couldn't stand it.  The bright colors caught my eye from an aisle away.  It is very well crocheted.  It does need a little repair, which is no biggie.  I couldn't stand it...someone put a lot of work into it, and their it hung...all neglected and unappreciated.  I began to wonder if my things will end up like this when I am long gone.  I hope she (I am pretty sure it was made by a she!!) would be happy to know I have her blanket and absolutely love it!

So, what have I been up to???  You name it.  Busier than I want to be I'm afraid of.  Brad's mom has gone into assisted living and we have been in the process of packing up her things and getting ready to sell her condo.  It is so full of generations of family momentos.  Pictures and newspaper clippings from her childhood and actually her parents' childhoods.  All very well marked so we know who the people are in most of the old pictures.  With Brad being an only child, it's been up to him to get all this done.  I'm helping as much as possible.  I do have a respect for family history, so it will all be kept together, and maybe a bit more organized once we gather everything.

Needless to say, it has taken huge chunks out of my Hookie time!  But, I have managed to get some progress on my granny square project and am excited to share some pictures!

I have managed to complete a round of squares.  I chose to do them in tones of gray.  And as I am working I am just letting my ideas flow.  I think I will continue until I have a good sized square, which will go in the center of the dining room table...I think.  LOL.  Doesn't it have a real vintage feel to it, with a pop of funky color.  My girls in knitting group are all eyeballing it.  It's my hope to spend this afternoon working on more squares.

My first pair of glasses!  Yes, I still have them, and remember wearing them.  I was three or four when I got them!  The envy of my kindergarten class style'n in my pink horn-rimmed glasses. 

This will give you an idea of actually how little they are.  My eyesight hasn't changed a bit, only now I have this need for bifocals...which I hate wearing!

I found this pair of Brad's baby shoes while packing at his mom's.  They were so sweet I had to bring them home with me. 

Okay...just one more picture.  I am now starting a round of squares that have a very muted peachy tan colors, with that pop of red in the center.  I think it is going to be pretty.  Time will tell.

Unfinished Business

Yay....Last night I finished my Red & White Hexi-blanket!  Pictures will be forth coming for the final reveal!! 

Now with that done, I have plenty of unfinished business I can concentrate on.

Making the unfinished list is my shirret rug.  I had forgotten how much I have actually done on this!  It is just needing a border, and I am still trying to decide exactly how I want that to look.  I think it needs some black in it for some contrast.  More to come on this little project!

Next:

This little puppy has been sitting on the back burner for quite some time, why?...I have no idea!  It is going to be a totally 70s retro looking scarf.  Working it up in some Palette wool.  This photo doesn't lie either...it is this bright!

Red Heart Log Cabin Throw

I am totally jonesing to start this afghan.  My nephew has asked for an afghan, and I think it would be perfect for him.  I have been studying all the different log cabins out there, knit and crochet, and there is not a one of them that I don't like.  Do not be surprised if you see a square popping up here on my blog soon!

I am out for now.  I will be back in a couple days with some pictures of the Red & Black for all to see!

Binky for Summer

Greetings blogsters! I just finished up this little Binky I made for a new grandbaby of a friend at work. I'll bring you some more pictures when I am able to score some daylight hours. I snapped this little shot this evening, but don't want to press my luck...it's so hard to get a decent picture at night!

I'm smiling...it's humpday, and tomorrow is Little Friday, which means the weekend in rolling on in!

Sneaky Peak

Just a tiny sneaky peak at my finished granny square scarf. Love it! Love it so much, I made two! I am hating it so bad that I missed my window of the perfect lighting to get more pictures...so, they will have to wait for tomorrow! The colors in these grannies gets me absolutely giddy with that crochet excitement!

Scrappy Goodness

I just love my basket full of left over yarn from other projects! It's amazing what can come out of those scraps. I knit up this scarf using leftovers. Cast on 200 stitches so it would be nice and long and knit in strips of color, each separated by a row of white, by k2 tog, wrap yarn around the needle (I am much better at actually knitting these stitches than typing them out!) The white row creates a criss-cross pattern.


I am making hot pads or you could call them pot holders for the girls at work. These are so much fun to work on...I get addicted to them. Of course, I am using up scrap yarn, so they are very bright! I can see these squares put together for an afghan...it would look awesome!!! I crochet eleven rounds to create the square, then fold in each corner and seam them together. You can actually see one completed in the picture below. I know the girls are going to love these!





I have accomplished so much this weekend. Just about finished up my Christmas shopping! And gave the house a good cleaning, I mean I even took down the window scarves and washed them, took down the pictures and cleaned them...and steam cleaned the carpet! Needless to say, my lower back is feeling the aftermath, but it is so nice to get up on Monday morning for work and have the house clean and in order!!!

It is going to be a busy week, and I am sure it will fly by!

Finished! My Super Knitting Tote!

I get so excited when I finish a project. This is truly an original! Once I finish up one of my bags I always find things I would do differently, for instance, if I were to do this again, I would make the strap a little shorter. But I love the color and shape and the traditional black bordered granny square design. It reminds me of a carpet bag you would carry on a train to travel across the old west.


Can you tell how big it is??! I cannot believe how much I can pack into this baby! Notice the flat bottom...and it stays that way. I sandwiched three sheets of plastic canvas and sealed them in a crocheted envelope...so this is strong and can hold some weight. I also fully lined the bag with a crocheted liner. It gives the bag a great shape.


You can see how I cinched the sides with a chain stitch cord which I laced through the top portion of the bag. I like the effect this gives and I can always loosen it if I need more room!


You can see a skein of yarn lurking doen in the bottom of the bag. I could probably put about 9 skeins of yarn in this bag comfortably!!

Now that I have this done, I am free to work on a few Christmas goodies. I think once Christmas has passed I will drag out my Babette blanket and get it finished up. It always feels so good to finish up a project! :-D
