Super Groovy Granny Square Skirt

Finally finished!! This is the reason I love crochet, it's for projects like this. I was contacted by Denaz, a very talented lady from the UK who designs jewelry made from old vintage pieces. She contacted me, and through emails back and forth she told me of how much she liked my work and the way I worked with color. She asked if I could make her a skirt. After looking at her etsy site and her website, I was honored...such talent! And I am planning on sending her a couple of pieces of some vintage costume jewelry handed down to me by my Grandmother...I cannot wait to get it to her and see what she comes up with!

Well, here it is, all finished and ready to go on a journey to the UK to its new owner!

I used a beaded lariat made by my Grandma Alice as a belt...now how hip is that?! I think this would be adorable with some dark hose and a pair of boots. (Maybe I need one for myself?)

I had an idea for a crocheted belt...so below is the result. Quite cute! I have more of the buckles, and tons of yarn, so there should be more coming to go into the etsy shop!

The belt is crocheted in a strand of ribbon yarn and a natural rayon yarn.

Yes, I've been busy this week...I also finished up this scarf. This yarn is so soft and colorful. It has a homespun look to it up close. One hank made this scarf, I used every bit of it!

This too will probably go into the etsy shop.

So, now here I sit trying to contemplate what I want to work on next. Decisions, decisions! I think maybe another fun scarf in blacks and reds...I have some yummy yarn that I picked up at Hobby Lobby calling to me.....what....here I come!

Final Note: This week has proven to be one in which I have really stepped back and thanked God for my girlfriends!! They mean the world to me...I don't know what I would do without them!

Final Stages!

It's getting there! Even though you cannot tell it, it is soon to look like a skirt! I promise!

I do like the color of these squares as well as the size. It's bold and bright. Although I used the traditional granny square style from the 60's and 70's the colors make it more modern.

I wanted to upload a couple photos for everyone to see, and hopefully the next pictures will be of a finished skirt!

While I had the camera out, I snapped one of Phoebe. She looks sad in this picture, but I assure you she's not! She hates me to pose her...there was a little treat following to reward her for being so sweet! That's it for now! It's still early enough to get a movie in along with some crocheting!

Sunny Weather and Longer Days

Daylight Savings Time arrived early this morning, and although this day has flown by, I am happy because with that follows Springtime and more daylight hours and warmer weather! The warmer weather has arrived here, not sure if it will stay, but you can tell Spring is definitely in the air.

This past week has been busier that I like. It started out with a snow day, then followed with getting back to work and being slammed with meetings!

Yesterday I had the second portion of my crochet class. Although I only had one student attend, she was an extremely creative lady! She had a gift of being a very good knitter, and caught on to crochet very quickly! As well, she inspired me with a project she was wanting some help with. I love meeting creative people, and it's just an added bonus to get inspiration from them!

I only have two more squares left to complete the granny square skirt. I should be able to get that done today, get these ends woven in and get it assembled and ready for the trim. My one goal for the coming week is to get this little bad-boy done and in the mail to it's new home!

Beautiful Granny Scape!

For now I can only share pictures of my progress so far. Although it does not look much like a skirt...I assure you there is one in there, it's just waiting on a couple more squares.

Seed Stitch Knit Scarf

I picked up this beautiful self-striping acrylic yarn from Gate City Yarns in Greensboro. This is the result of a couple evenings of knitting. I needed to have something to help me through a mild case of granny square burnout. It seems to have done the job, and has slowly grown. I should finish it up after this week...for now I will concentrate on getting the skirt completed.

I have to admit that I have had a case of the blues which has been a little hard to shake off. I believe missing my husband is the culprit...I find myself not wanting to do much of anything at all. The warmer sunny weather has really helped, and this morning I forced myself to get outside and do a little yard work, which helped a great deal. I believe this has been the best medicine of all.

That's it for now...I want to finish up on some housework so I can sit down this evening and work on the granny square skirt and enjoy the evening.

Finally...I am happy with my grannies!

Well, I think I finally got my mojo going on this crocheted skirt and have come up with a color pallet that I actually like...it took a little time to get it going. So, now I am sitting back and cranking out squares. What a great way to pass the time...especially on these weekends when my husband is out of town!

As I work on this, I am almost tempted to make double squares for a skirt for myself...but I think I would like mine longer so I could wear it with boots and dark tights. We'll see. Sometimes I get these grand ideas and just don't have time to carry them out.

Yes, I am really liking these colors. I am using a smaller stitch rather than the classic double crochet granny. Instead I am doing a half-double crochet stitch. It's a pretty little square.

Today was an absolutely beautiful day! The weather was warm, it was hard to believe it is February! I actually opened up some windows in the house!

As some of you may know, I have a secret addiction to paper and making cards. My sister gave me and my sister-in-law a Cricut machine for Christmas! What a generous gift! It was a special thank you for us helping out with the baby and the kids when she had her heart attack this past fall. I am happy to say she is doing very well now! Okay...I am getting off the subject! Today I packed up my paper supplies and put them in the car along with Phoebe and headed to my brother's for a day of paper madness!

My niece Devin with Phoebe in her lap.

Now, just look what we came up with! Rhonda, my sister-in-law, wanted to come up with some little valentine gifts she could take to work. Aren't these adorable! We did it all with the Cricut. We got six of them completely done while we cut up and giggled. Phoebe also had a blast playing with the kids. She hasn't moved since I brought her home...I actually think they wore her out!

Here's hoping for a good upcoming week! Hopefully Brad will get to come home this weekend, I am crossing my fingers!

Experiment in Pinks!

Here is a little bit more of my experimenting with these colors. I am leaning towards these color combinations and I like the random changing of the yarn.

Here I did a little square with the black center...hmmm....not sure. I like it, maybe I need to work three more of these up and see how they look.
Decisions!

Friday Night Scarf

Named so, because I crocheted this up Friday evening while waiting on Brad's plane to come in! This is some yummy yarn my girlfriend brought back from China! It has great color along with a little glitzy thread through it. I used a half-double crochet, followed by a row of double crochet. And yes, as always, I made it super long! I don't know how long I'll be on that kick!

Friday Night Scarf

I have more of this yarn in shades of golds and think that may be something I can do this week in the evenings when nothing else really appeals to me!

New Project: Crocheted Skirt
I have had a request to make a crocheted skirt, in pinks and blacks. Here is my yarn selection, some gorgeous Lion Brand Wool!
Girlie Grannies

I am experimenting with different squares. I can't quite decide what I like. Here is a sampling below. I did a few more samples last night, and will post those as soon as I can! This is my creative process...I work up some squares and put them together until I find what really strikes me. I'm actually wondering if I should throw another color into the mix! Any comments on this would be truly appreciated!!!

Girlie Grannies

Of course, I love the black against this pink! It gives it that pop!

Brad came home for the weekend, which was so nice! The house has seemed so quiet while he's been gone. I was curious of how Phoebe would do when she saw him. She lost it! Started whining for him to pick her up! It was so sweet.

I cannot leave before posting a cute little picture of her I snapped last week!
God I'm Cute!
Now how adorable is she I ask you!!

Finally...The Sun Came Out!

Yesterday evening the clouds parted after two days of cold rainy whether, and the sky set on fire! It was one of those sunsets you don't see often, let alone get the opportunity to photograph!

More pictures of my table runner.

And on to my next project. A request for a crocheted skirt! I already love the idea. So I have been playing with yarns. I really like this yarn, it's an Australian yarn called Heirloom. 100% pure new wool. And it's washable! I like the browns, but am thinking of some tone of red in place of the yellow.

Happy Crocheting!
