My Finished Babette!!

When I got up this morning I was a bit lost. My routine is to feed the dog and get her business done, pour my Diet Pepsi for that boost of caffeine, sit down on the sofa putting my feet up, and then picking up my crochet...but this morning I had no crochet in the basket! It seemed so strange. Finishing a project always does this to me. It leaves me a little lost in the morning. But this will not last long!

Believe it or not, I am not sick of looking at her. Many times, and I am sure some of you know what I am talking about, I get burnout when I spend so much time working on one thing. This didn't do that to me. In fact I cannot get enough of looking at my Babette, or touching it for that matter. Which leads me to my next thought! I have been seriously thinking about felting it. It is a bit scratchy since it is 100% wool. I thought lightly felting it would make it a little softer. Thoughts anyone??

I felted an extra square. I should have photographed it. I will do that and get a picture of it uploaded. I really like the way it turned out.

But for now, I am going to bask in the sea of color that this blanket has. It's like a painting...Painting with Yarn!

I will leave you with a little shot of me posed with my Babette.
Me & Babette
Happy 4th everyone! I'm off with camera in hand, and Babette in the other hand...I need more pictures. :-)

Hi Dawn,
I wouldn't felt it... I am afraid it will be too thick in the end... I think just giving it a wash and adding some liquid fabric softner might make the blanket soft and not so scratchy anymore.
It's so gorgeous!!!

Happy 4th of July!

That is just stunning Dawn. What an accomplishment! I love how you arranged the lighter and darker sections, and of course the way you do your color changes within rounds.

I received an afghan from my sister that my grandmother had made years earlier, and I washed it since I had no idea when it had been washed last. What I didn't realize was that most of the yarn used in that afghan was wool...oops! My first experience with felting! It came out really neat since it was the old standard zig zag design, crocheted very tight. I was just glad I removed the fringe from the edges first!

I'd be scared to felt it. What if something went wrong?!

I love it... it is beautiful... I don't have any advice on felting... but, with any artistic endeavor I think you have to go with wherever it takes you... felt or not to felt... it will tell you and it will be great... debb

Wow! The babette really turned out nice. I would be afraid of felting it also. If it were me, I would put it in the delicate cycle w/cold water and softener and see what happens. I would be so upset if the felting ruined it. Beautiful work though!

That is a truly beautiful afghan. I haven't heard of Babette..is it the name of the square or the way that it is made up or maybe the pattern? Would love to know if there is a pattern for it or did you design it yourself? Dev X

I wouldn't felt it... what if things pull in different directions because of their various sizes? It looks so PERFECT! But.. the itch... What if you back it with something soft and thin that won't take away from the front? A light fabric that you carefully stitch on?
